S1 E5: The Breakdown: Manager search nears its end, McIntyre departs, and Rawlinson steps up

The latest edition of the Blues podcast from The Seal looks at the week that was

It’s been quite a couple of weeks since we last hosted an episode of The Breakdown.

On Saturday it was announced that Calum McIntyre would be leaving his position as manager of Chester with immediate effect, his final game in charge being the 2-1 home win over Spennymoor Town at the Deva Stadium.

The following day it was confirmed that first-team coach Connell Rawlinson would be in charge for the remainder of the season, with the first of Chester’s 10 National League North games that they have left coming this weekend at home to former Blues boss Steve Watson’s Darlington, a side in the play-off mix.

Chester, three points off the play-offs in 10th, have the handicap of their rivals having multiple games in hand on them, but hope springs eternal and a win this weekend would make the closing weeks of the season interesting indeed.

This week’s episode looks at McIntyre’s exit, Rawlinson’s move to be the interim boss, and also provides an update as to where Chester are with regards to appointing a new manager for the 2026/27 season, with further talks having been held and some optimism that an announcement is close.

Oh, and one of Chester’s modern greats in Kevin Roberts will play the final game of a fine professional career this weekend before taking up the post of a physiotherapist with an EFL side. Here’s hoping new beginnings and final endings are all met with the happiness of a win over the Quakers.
