In the scorching hot sunshine of Ellesmere Port on Saturday afternoon, Chester got their pre-season up and running.
Goals from Tom Peers and Jacob Hazel either side of the break delivered victory for the Blues in what was the first time fans could see a Phil Parkinson team in action.
Two separate teams were played for each half, with some notable contributions from senior players, academy prospects and trialists, but to read much into the game itself would be folly. These games are for the fitness and to ensure sharpness come the National League North season opener at Chorley on August 8.
By the time Crewe Alexandra visit the Deva Community Stadium on August 1 for the final pre-season friendly we may have some idea of the team that will start at Victory Park, although familiarity with the new faces make take a little longer for some.
This week we take a look at the first friendly, preview the week ahead and take a glance at the fixture list for the coming season.
