After a 3-3 draw at the weekend that felt like a defeat, Chester needed something desperately at Spennymoor Town on Tuesday night.
A goal down with nine minutes remaining, it would have been another gut punch for the Blues and boss Calum McIntyre from a run of games that has provided the biggest test of his mettle as a football manager thus far.
But goals from Pat Jones and Fin Roberts turned the game on its head and we can now look at the next few games, perhaps, with a little more positivity and a degree of hope that this season of frustration still has plenty of bright spells to come.
Will that remain after Peterborough Sports on Saturday and Marine on Tuesday? Who knows? But for a few days at least there is a little bit more to be cheerful about.
In this week’s edition of The Breakdown we chat about the two games, the importance of Fin Shrimpton, why Michael Kelly and Phil Croker haven’t played yet, where Chester are with the search for two new strikers, and how Tom Peers could do with a collective arm around he shoulder.
