Where Chester and MBNA stand as partnership approaches talks over future
The Blues and the city-based banking giant have been partners for 16 years
Chester remain hopeful that the sponsorship deal that they have had in place with MBNA for the last 16 years will continue beyond December.
The global banking giant has had its headquarters in Chester since 1993 and has been the principal partner of the Blues ever since the club reformed from the ashes of Chester City back in 2010, being the main front-of-shirt sponsor on the club’s shirts for every season since, as well as having significant visibility through advertising at both the Deva Stadium and the King George V Sports Hub in Blacon, while there has been an ‘MBNA Day’ for company staff once a season as part of the activation for a number of years.
Chester haven’t had to go to market for main shirt sponsorship since early 2010, and numerous extensions to the partnership have arrived over the years, with MBNA’s involvement with the club forming a key part of their corporate social responsibility for the local area, especially given the status of the football club as a fan-owned entity.
But the partnership is never taken as a given at Chester, and the time is fast approaching where talks around whether or not it continues even further into the future.
