Chester have added to their squad depth with the addition of pacey right back Wesley Frimpong.
The 21-year-old Dutchman, brother of Liverpool full-back Jeremie Frimpong, has been training with the Blues for a number of weeks, impressing manager Phil Parkinson sufficiently for the club to offer him a deal.
With the exit of Jacob Hazel on loan to Darlington for the next three months freeing up some budget space, Frimpong is seen as a potentially important player for Chester, bringing a level of intensity on the defensive and attacking end that would better suit a like for like change for Sam Reed in games should the need arise.
Isaac Burgess, who isn’t the same make-up as Reed, has been the change more recently, with Reed having looked a little jaded in recent weeks before returning to his excellent best with a superb performance in the 4-1 win over Worksop Town on Saturday at the Deva Community Stadium.
Depth, and appropriate cover for players across the pitch, is something that Parkinson has been keen on since the start, and Frimpong falls into that category, as well as aligning with the profile of player that the Chester manager has wanted to bring to the club, younger players with a high ceiling for development and growth.
Frimpong, who is Manchester based, began his career in the academy at Bolton before spending the last two years in Austria with current Austrian Bundesliga champions and UEFA Champions League qualifiers LASK Linz, where he formed part of their development ranks.
Earlier this summer he had spent some time north of the border with Scottish Championship outfit Livingston, who Chester currently have striker Joe Boggan on loan from for the season.
He is available for selection for the FA Cup third qualifying round clash in the North East at Spennymoor Town this weekend (3pm kick off).
