The Debrief: 'Professional' Chester, leader Davies, class Croker, and hope springs eternal after Leamington win
The Blues put in an assured performance in Warwickshire to bag the three points
There just haven’t been enough of these types of games and performances for Chester this season.
“Professional,” was how Blues boss Calum McIntyre would describe the 2-0 win at bottom-of-the-league Leamington on a dreary Saturday afternoon in Warwickshire, and that is pretty much what it was.
Pat Jones handed Chester a third-minute lead before they had to be resilient to some aerial pressure from the hosts in the first half, while Tom Davies popped up in the attacking third to cut inside and curl home a beautiful second from the edge of the box after the break to bag up the points for the Blues.
Chances would arrive for Connor Woods, Lewis Leigh and Fin Roberts as the visitors dominated the second half of the contest and Chester goalkeeper Bobby Jones had little more than a watching brief.
It was efficient and a job done well. Chester took the sting out of the contest with an early goal, and in holding firm in the first half ended it as a contest with Davies’ goal. To a man, every did their job and contributed, and while a win over the National League North’s bottom side is hardly something to get giddy about, the manner of the performance, which had little jeopardy, and the fact that it was back-to-back clean sheets and 10 points out of the last 12 on offer, meant that there were major positives to be taken.
