The Debrief: Familiar tale of Chester woe in Scarborough loss, McIntyre looks at changes
The Blues fell to defeat to the Seadogs as they were downed 1-0 at Bridlington
It always seemed like it would be one of those games, settled by a goal that would come about through a set piece or a defensive lapse.
And so it proved to be the case. After what was a hard-fought first 45 minutes against Scarborough Athletic at a bitterly cold Queensgate in Bridlington, Chester were sluggish out of the traps in the second half and when three players failed to track their marker on 48 minutes, Richie Bennett lofted the ball over George Murray-Jones and right back Kieran Weledji was there to tap home.
Like with the Worksop Town game seven days previous, Chester had done enough over 90 minutes to win the game, and the fact that the home sponsors’ man of the match was given to Seadogs goalkeeper Ryan Whitley should give a clue as to the tale of the tape. Chester probably deserved to edge three points, definitely did enough to warrant a point, but ended with nothing to show for it.
