The Debrief: Bedford late show gives Chester hope, and McIntyre respite
In Bedfordshire, the Blues picked up a hugely valuable three points
How Chester needed that.
With three minutes of normal time on the clock it was looking bleak in Bedfordshire, and it had nothing to do with the weather.
Chester were facing a fourth National League North defeat in succession, which would have been their eighth out of the last 11. It would have been a defeat that saw them a point ahead of their hosts, Bedford Town, and while nine points above the bottom four, the pervading narrative would have been that the Blues were sliding into a relegation dogfight.
They still might, of course, but an 87th minute header from loanee Phil Croker, and a 95th-minute strike from Fin Shrimpton, turned the contest on its head, and created a seven-point buffer between the Blues and their hosts, instead of what would’ve been one just a few brief minutes prior.
