Given the largely younger profile of Chester’s squad this season, there are high hopes when it comes to growth and realising potential.
The likes of Ma’kel Campbell, Luke Hewitson, Connor Murphy, Jefferson Abreu and Kofi Moore are all under the age of 21, and their teammates around them in the shape of Nathan Woodthorpe, Sam Reed and George Burroughs aren’t much older.
Some have already shown their hand when it comes to potential, while others are building. Chester is now a place, with full-time training and a support network of staff at a professional training complex, that is well positioned to aid development of these younger players.
There was a buzz around plenty of names during the summer when it came to Chester’s acquisitions. The name Jake Griffin was one of those to have decision makers at the club giddy about the ceiling of the 20-year-old, who spurned the chance of another year at Championship side Stoke City, where he had been under-21s captain and been an unused substitute on numerous occasions last season.
