With each passing week there seems to be new investment flooding into the English game at all levels.

Much of the capital that has arrived on these shores over the past few years has been from the United States, with the soaring popularity of the game across the Atlantic, now in a World Cup year, and a narrative behind it that appeals to a broader fanbase in the US through entertainment mediums such as the Ted Lasso show and ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, meaning that investors see growth prospects.

But is it really an investment at this level?

Tranmere Rovers are the latest EFL club to be set for American ownership, something Chester knows having been the first ever English football club to be owned by an American. The Terry Smith years were not golden, to say the least. The Blues were also well versed in having an American Football coach as manager long before Ted Lasso was guiding AFC Richmond.
