Chester needed that.
It’s been a bruising month for the Blues. Having won their opening four games of the National League North season under Phil Parkinson, the following five games saw them beaten three times and draw twice. The early positivity that had built up thanks to the rip-roaring start had slowly ebbed away, and questions around the potency of Chester’s attack, or lack of, were getting louder.
Last weekend’s narrow 2-1 win at Northern Premier League Division One West side Lower Breck, at a glorified school sports astroturf, snapped that sequence. It was a win that was expected, but its importance was significant. So, too, was the week to prepare that Parkinson and his assistant Neil Sorvel were afforded this week, a rarity over these past four weeks.
In the build-up to this week, Parkinson had held one to one meetings with all members of his squad to ensure they remained focused, or refocused, on what their duties were, and the role that they had to play.
