In September of 2020, there was never any guarantee that football would return to the way it was.

The COVID-19 pandemic had upended all of our lives, and for a business that relies on the live event and getting people to come and watch it in their thousands, the outlook for football, and particularly the Non-League scene, where the reliance on gate receipts is far greater, looked rather bleak.

The 2019/20 season managed to reach a conclusion behind closed doors after a pause, and Chester were beaten in the play-offs by Altrincham. Nobody really knew how far down the road we would get in the following campaign as the pandemic worsened, and interest in a season where we wouldn’t be able to come and attend in the way we have been used to for generations was tough to drum up.
