Chester make a swift return to action and kick off 2026 with a home encounter with Worksop Town tomorrow afternoon in the National League North.

Having come into what threatened to be a challenging evening against Macclesfield on Tuesday night at the Deva Stadium on the back of successive 3-1 defeats, the second of which included a woeful first half display on Boxing Day against AFC Telford United, the Blues pulled it out of the bag against the Silkmen.

Was it a classic? No, it was not. But it was what it needed to be, a professional, gritty, workmanlike performance which didn’t hide behind the selection headaches which had been presented ahead of kick off, where a flu bug hit a large number of first teamers, and injury issues continued to bite.

A patched up Chester side were rarely troubled on their way to a 2-0 win, with goals from the excellent Dylan Mottley-Henry and defender Tom Leak. With Worksop’s visit coming just four days on, the squad is likely still to be tested, and how many players boss Calum McIntyre will have fully fit is still something of an unknown. The hope is for a brighter outlook than there was ahead of the Macclesfield game.
