Chester complete signing of goalkeeper Bobby Jones in time for Marine test
Jones is expected to start tomorrow evening after joining from Boston United
Chester have completed a deal to sign goalkeeper Bobby Jones from Boston United until the end of the season.
The Blues made the decision to move into the market to bring in another ‘keeper in the wake of the 3-0 loss at Peterborough Sports at the weekend, a game where loan stopper George Murray-Jones’s mistake allowed the hosts to take the lead on 17 minutes.
Murray-Jones, who only earlier this month had extended his own loan spell at Chester from Nottingham Forest until the end of the campaign, had endured a difficult few weeks, with major mistakes costing the Blues against AFC Telford United and, more recently, in the 3-3 draw with Chorley where his own goal handed the visitors a share of the spoils with a 94th-minute leveller.
Jones, 24, arrives at the Blues with a CV that boasts considerable experience at National League North level, having spent last season with Curzon Ashton, making 45 league appearances and keeping 20 clean sheets as The Nash finished eighth, narrowly missing out on the play-off places.
Jones moved to Boston United in the National League during the summer but found games hard to come by, spending time out on loan at Spennymoor Town, making eight appearances this season.
His football CV includes spells at AFC Fylde and Stockport County, as well as loan spells at Brackley Town and Marine, who are the Blues’ opponents in the National League North tomorrow night.
The new addition is expected to be handed a starting spot, with discussions to take place around what happens with Murray-Jones, the expectation being he heads back to his parent club.
